European Urban Planning Standards to Be Introduced to Armenia Through Renshin's Efforts
Yeghiazar Vardanyan, Chairman of the Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Davit Grigoryan, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Hovsep Hoveyan, Advisor to the Chairman, held a working meeting with Mark Chown, Global Director of Operations at Arup, Maurizio Teora, Head of the company's Italian branch, Levon Kasparov, Director of Operations at Renshin Urban Investments, and Konstantin Avksentiev, Head of the Project Management Department at the same company.
Arup, a world-renowned leader in developing and implementing complex engineering constructions and seismic-resistant high-rise buildings, was invited to Armenia by Renshin to participate in the Skyline project. The meeting between the companies' representatives and the Urban Development Committee aimed to discuss the possibility of introducing global best practices in complex engineering construction and earthquake-resistant project implementation in Armenia, as well as potential areas for cooperation.
Arup's first project in Armenia, Skyline by Renshin, will showcase the company's engineering expertise in constructing high-rise buildings. Chairman Yeghiazaryan emphasized the importance of such large-scale projects and the need to introduce European urban planning standards alongside existing Armenian practices. He stated, "Your involvement in this project, bringing great international experience to Armenia, will undoubtedly contribute to the development of our country's urban development sector. We hope this will also spark increased interest in this complex and vital field, especially among young people and future professionals." The Chairman also stressed the importance of transferring this valuable knowledge to younger generations.
Mark Chown, Global Operations Director of Arup Company, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "We are delighted to be involved in such a significant and impressive project in Armenia today. Our participation will bring the best international experience in earthquake-resistant and complex engineering projects to Armenia. We are also pleased that the Urban Planning Committee of Armenia shares our interest in implementing the best urban planning standards."
Maurizio Teora, Head of the Italian office of Arup and a structural engineer for numerous world-famous multi-story projects, added, "Arup professionals serve as board members of state institutes for urban planning standards development in several European countries. This experience positions us well for the proposed cooperation, and we are eager to contribute to the introduction of new and best standards in Armenia."
Levon Kasparov, Operations Director of Renshin Urban Investments, emphasized the opportunity to introduce new standards to Armenia and foster cooperation with international partners and relevant Armenian institutions through the project. Kasparov mentioned, “We are glad that through the projects we are able to bring not only new standards to Armenia but also to create an opportunity for cooperation with our international partners and the relevant institutions of the Republic of Armenia,"
The parties agreed to schedule more meetings in the near future to institutionalize the process of introducing European urban planning standards in Armenia and explore various avenues for cooperation. A cooperation memorandum between Arup and the RA Urban Development Committee is expected to be signed soon.
