On May 25, 2023, World Trade Center Yerevan (WTCY) and Renshin Urban Investments initiated a conference with the leaders of the renowned "Foster+Partners,” giving the Armenian architects’ community and students a chance to explore the cutting-edge realm of sustainable architecture.

Niall Dempsey and Juan Frigerio, heads of the architectural company of "Foster+Partners," were invited to Armenia by WTCY and Renshin Urban Investments. During conference, the architects presented the concept of sustainable architecture through showcased projects elaborating on the features and advantages of this innovative approach.

This is the third time WTCY invites prestigious companies to Armenia, aligning with its mission of fostering international business experience and knowledge exchange in Armenia.

The director of WTCY, Artashes Tonoyan, elaborated on sustainable development prospects in Armenia. "WTCY brings the best experience and concepts of international business to Armenia that can and should be invested in Armenia through these kinds of meetings with world-famous companies," states Tonoyan. "In this regard, the discussion of sustainable architecture with 'Foster+Partners' contributes to our business development mission in compliance with the UN's sustainable development agenda and shows how it helps the development of businesses and societies."

After the opening speech, the Ambassador of the UK, His Excellency John Gallagher, spoke, emphasizing the importance of sustainable architecture in reducing the effects of climate change. "I am happy to be here today. The construction and architecture sectors are important in reducing the impact of climate change. The good news is that the UK can bring its expertise there,” states Ambassador Gallagher. “I am very happy that today we will listen to the representatives of one of the leading UK companies, Foster and Partners, who will share their experience with Armenian architects, students, and community representatives."

"Armenia is a new country for us, and we are glad to be able to discover it. Now we want to invite you to our world, Foster and Partners. We design large-scale projects from airports to doorknobs. As architects, we believe that we need to go beyond the limited thinking of buildings and create infrastructures that glue the different components of the urban environment together,” states Dempsey. “It is the point where sustainable architecture is especially important. It combines many professions and approaches. It is the concept that already today creates the cities of the future, which consider all aspects of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.”

"The meeting of renowned architects with our community was a wonderful opportunity to once again pay attention to the latest international concepts and consider the possibilities of applying them in Armenia. We are sure that after this meeting, we will see the discussed concepts and approaches in the new projects of Armenian architects," states Levon Kasparov, operations director of Renshin company.

Following the presentation, attendees had the chance to engage in a Q&A session with the speakers, discuss the application of sustainable architecture in Armenia, and express their optimism for future meetings.
